Mark Hanusz is an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney with the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office in Ohio, bringing over 30 years of international and domestic experience across law, publishing, technology, and finance. He began his career in international finance with Swiss Bank Corporation (now UBS), specializing in equity derivatives in Zurich, Hong Kong, and Jakarta, where he advised institutional clients and developed risk-management strategies in emerging markets. He speaks German and Indonesian.

In 2000, he founded Equinox Publishing, which became the largest English-language publisher of books on Indonesia, producing award-winning titles on history, politics, and culture, and introducing Indonesian literature to global audiences. Building on this foundation, he established Equinox Apps, the first publisher of iOS applications in Indonesia, and Equinox Digital Music Distribution, the first international digital distributor of music from Indonesia. These ventures extended his work into digital media, mobile applications, and global music platforms, advancing Indonesian cultural exports while pioneering new markets for content distribution.

Returning to the U.S. in 2016, he earned his J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Toledo College of Law in 2023. During law school, he focused on criminal law, securities and technology law and completed an externship with Judge Dean Mandros in the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas. Directly out of law school, he joined the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office in May 2023 as a certified legal intern, and after passing the bar in November 2023 was sworn in as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney by Prosecutor Julia Bates. Since then, he has served as lead and co-counsel in over twenty criminal trials and hearings, prosecuted over 150 cases (see here) and filed over 300 motions, briefs and responses (see here) with the court. Mark has also served as Campaign Manager for Judge Michael Bonfiglio and Campaign Treasurer for Judge Ken Walz and Judge Myron Duhart. Today, he combines his global business background and legal expertise with a commitment to innovation, problem-solving, and public service, leveraging technology to improve prosecutorial practice, streamline case management, and advance the fair administration of justice.
